Listening with Lloyds

Working as critical friends, we’re thinking through Lloyds’ Banking Group’s internal “climate culture”, with a view to developing creative engagement tools.

This summer we’re working with the own-operations sustainability team at Lloyds Banking Group on their communications strategy. LBG is a huge organisation with a broad range of functions, including commercial banking, retail banking, insurance, pensions, and investments. Communicating effectively across a business of this size poses significant challenges – but is a vital part of building a sustainable organisational culture.

Focusing on relationships, our first task is to understand how the own-ops team is currently positioned within the Group, and clarify how sustainability more broadly sits within their colleagues’ working lives. To support this ambition, we’ve been conducting interviews with LBG colleagues, visiting LBG sites, and reflecting with the team on what we’ve heard.

Armed with a clearer understanding of LBG’s ‘climate culture’, we are now well placed to take action – helping the own-ops team to continue building strong two-way relationships across the Group. Our next steps, therefore – in line with the LEAF method – are to articulate emerging patterns from our listening, before devising creative resources in response.
